Drainage Basics

Why drainage? In general, water absorbs into the soil, after a rainfall or an irrigation run.

In the pic above, grading (shaping) the topography, water flows by gravity due to an aggressive slope, allowing the soil to dry.  Encountering a flat or minimum slope, water is captured in basins, and conducted to a low area, via sloped pipe.

A final situation is where we encounter a high water table. Due to soil types below surface, which are impermeable, we utilize a seep drain (pipe encased in drain rock), to capture the excess water and conducted away.

The sump pump may be employed to push water when natural slopes aren't available. â€‹

Water in the garage? Install a channel drain, decorative rock in a concrete channel.
